Ubaye

With 80 km of length and a total area of approximately 94000 hectares ranging from 700 m Lauzet to 3412 m at sea level of the Aiguille de Chambeyron, the Ubaye is a whole world to explore. You can wander on the shores of large reservoirs and small alpine lakes, fish or swim in its tranquil waters, or go rafting on its mighty waters. You can discovery each of the 14 towns of Ubaye, one after another, riding up the seven hills, skiing on the slopes of the three ski resorts... or visiting the forts of Roche la Croiz and Tournoux, “the military Versailles of the nineteenth century” or even the Mexican houses of Barcellonette, built by ubayen immigrants... with a world available, everyone can find their own dimension through sport, recreation, culture...

Sights

The baroque church of Saint-Nicolas de Myre (listed historical monument), the “Mexican” villas (in particular the Magnans castle, a documented historical monument), the ancient houses with arcades in the town centre. A museum (memories of the land) dedicated to geology and archaeology, opening during school holidays, and the Abriès Mill, moved by hydraulic power, where you can also have a tour. In addition, the unmissable visit to the Maison de Produits de Pays (the home of local products), Jausiers is known for the streets of the Bonette Restefond, the highest in Europe (at 2802 m).

Sports

Beautiful excursions, particularly in the Mercantour National Park, but also in the Sagnes valley and the ascent of the Bonette hills, some of the highest in Europe (2802), all offering wonderful views over the southern Alps.

Larche

Sights

The valley and Lauzanier lake (listed site in the heart of the National Park), the Magdalene hills at the border with Italy, the chapel of Maison-Méane and the church of Notre-Dame du Mont Carmel (both of contemporary architecture), the Viraysse Fort at about 2700m altitude. A historical itinerary (the Costa de Beauregard trail), beginning in the village, will bring you to discover the history of the battles of June 1940, while in winter you can use the ski trail for skiing.

Sports

There are many possible excursions to the beautiful valley of Lauzanier, Lake Roburent (nestled on the Italian side) and the Viraysse fortress, the highest in the Alps at (2772 m). In winter, there is cross-country and alpine skiing.

Meyronnes

Sights

The fortifications of the line of Maginot alpine mountains, with guided tours at the ORche la Crois fort in the summer and a site museum at the low St-Ours ("a submarine in the mountain”). Beyond the Rochaille path of discovery, on the theme of the forest, the history of the village of Saint-Ours is remarkable for the sanctuary, the fact that it is a site of pilgrimage for fertility, and also the deportation of the inhabitants during the Second World War. With its peaks over 3000m, Meyronnes is a paradise for hikers in all seasons.

Sports

summer mountain biking and walking excursions through an ambitious program of creation and sculptural path signs
winter walking on skis or snowshoeing in the company of sled dogs, with a chance to see rich wildlife everywhere.

Uvernet-Fours

Sights

The Bachelard Valley, leading to the National Park and rich with well-preserved villages, is cross by the Route des Grandes Alpes, which leads to the Cayolle hills (2327 m). This road, as well as the ascent to the Allos hills (2240m), is characterized by substantial bridges of bold arches, which create many viewpoints on rugged landscapes. Dosciver also: the statue of the “Wolf” by Corson, at the Pra-Loup ski resort (1800m), and two remarkable churches of the late seventeenth century: Saint-Laurent a Fours and Notre-Dame-des-Lumières a Uvernet.

Sports

Hiking on Mount Pelat and Cimet, two “3000m”;it is also possible to climb the hills by biking of the hills of Cayolle and Allos.
